Bio

Dr. Larry Baucom is a native of Nashville, Tn. His education includes a B.A. from Trevecca University in Nashville, Tn. where he spent most of his time in either the religion department or the business department. He majored in Pastoral Ministry and minored in Business.

Dr. Baucom then attended Nazarene Theological Seminary where he became a graduate assistant for Old Testament Professor Dr. Harvey Finley. He graduated with honors with a Masters in Divinity specializing in Theology.

A few years later while pastoring, Dr. Baucom attended Florida State University where he completed a Ph.D. in Humanities with a concentration in critical methodologies (ways to interpret and study ancient languages and texts). He is skilled in the translation of Hebrew, Greek and German.

Dr. Baucom pastored sixteen years in the Church of the Nazarene. After a season of reflection outside of pastoring Dr. Baucom created and launched a new church called Sarasota Suncoast Community Church in 1998. Suncoast Community Church has no denominational affiliation and operates as a 501c3.

Dr. Baucom has been a Bible scholar for over thirty years. He has been the lead/teaching pastor twenty-three years at Suncoast and currently continues in that role. His responsibilities include teaching in the weekend services, coordinating leadership teams and overseeing the vision and direction of the church. The church has grown from zero to over one thousand in attendance in that time with an Internet streaming congregation of hundreds each weekend as well.

Dr. Baucom and his wife Becky have been married forty-five years and have three adult children, Lora Aviles, Stacy Homan and Ryan Baucom. They also have five grandchildren. The entire family resides in the Sarasota area and is active in Suncoast.
